Ripon city is steeped in history and is a fabulous place to visit, with the Cathedral being the main attraction. Ripon hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year so there is always plenty to do. A bustling market is held every Thursday in the market square. A leisurely walk along the canal basin is very pleasant, watching the colourful barges.
You will find an excellent range of shops, restaurants and character inns, golf course, race course and the beautiful Spa gardens. Don't miss the Hornblower who sounds his horn in the market square at 9 p.m.
Ripon is a perfect base for walking and touring the whole of the stunning Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.
Attractions including maginficent Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Newby Hall & Gardens, Lightwater Valley and Brimham Rocks are popular day visits. Harrogate, Thirsk and York are great places to visit and are within easy driving distance.
